Spring is ascending upon us and it’ not too soon. After a long winter, it’s time to get the yard ready. Along with the beautiful sunrises and the hint of warmth on top of the cool air there comes mud and grass stains as gardens are planted. Below are some tips on how you can get mud and grass stains out of clothing.

Marvelous Mud

There are some who believe that mud has healing properties. A popular favorite among spa goers is the mud bath. Depending on the spa you choose, the mud mixture varies. Some use a clay mix with peat moss and hot mineral water while others add volcanic ash. Mud bathers use this heat treatment to relieve muscle and join pain, cleanse impurities and detoxify the body. While mud may be great for the skin, it is not great when it’s left on your clothing.

Removal Guide

• Always read the care label on clothing or fabric.
• Gently remove what dried mud you can from the fabric.
• In a sink or bucket, soak in water before washing. Gently move the item with your hand.
• Using a detergent or enzyme presoak, soak the stains for 30 minutes. Old stains will need to presoak for several hours.
• Wash according to the care label.

Green Glory

There are many different types of grass. A natural carpet, our families play in the backyard cushioned by grass. Saturday’s are spent tending it – mowing, weeding, tilling, trimming, fertilizing and watering grass. While it looks beautiful outside and smells great after a summer storm, grass is not as beautiful when it has stained clothing.

Removal Guide

• Always read the care label on clothing or fabric.
• Take the item and place it face down on plain, non-colored or printed paper towel.
• Using rubbing alcohol and a clean cloth, lightly sponge the stain.
• Apply a stain pre-soak.
• Wash the item according to the care label.

If the stain remains, wash in hot water with chlorine bleach if it is safe for the fabric.
